This statue of Kannon, made without compromise from the selection of the material to the detailed finish, illuminates a definite level of skill. This work represents Kannon's compassion. Kannon, a symbol of mercy, shall guide all of us who are full of torment toward the correct path through her great compassion.
Chihiro Takamura (篁千礼) was in charge of the coloring. The body of the statue was finished in calming, light colors leaving the grain of the wood slightly visible. The clothing portion features lotus flowers drawn free-hand, depicting Lord Kannon standing still upon a lotus leaf. In addition, the halo and pedestal portions are expressed in a serene, underlying white tone.
