Buddhist Sculptor's Comments: Kannon is a bodhisattva who performs acts of compassion. As a result, ascetic practices to reach nirvana after attaining enlightenment appear as practices to save other persons (compassion and relief). These are called bodhisattva practices or the bodhisattva's ascetic practices. Buddhist thought teaches us that the innate quality of Buddha-nature and bodhisattva-nature exists within a person's heart. We imagine that Bodhisattva Kannon is a being whose functions are to make us notice that innate quality step-by-step from inside and outside and bring our hearts into harmony. I created this Buddhist statue based on this understanding.
