Product Details

Throughout the country, in temples dedicated to deities such as Sugawara no Michizane, especially in Dazaifu, and in those following the "Nade Botoke" (撫で仏) belief, large ox statues are commonly placed within the temple grounds. These oxen, commonly known as "Nade Ushi" (撫で牛), hold a belief that by stroking the same part of the ox's body after touching an ailing or injured part of one's own body, the ailment or injury will transfer to the ox, leading to recovery. This tradition is not only associated with the benefits of healing illnesses but also extends to prosperity in descendants and the fulfillment of various wishes. Many visitors devoutly stroke the "Nade Ushi" seeking its blessings.

The "Nade Ushi Omamori" is a protective charm strap that has received blessings through sacred prayers at "Juryo-in," a sub-temple of Zenko-ji Temple in Shinshu. Its most distinctive feature is the use of the leather from Matsusaka beef, known as the world's most expensive beef. The unique oils contained in this leather impart a special softness and texture, creating a glossy sheen that becomes more vibrant with each stroke. In these times of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is recommended to use this amulet as a talisman for warding off epidemics, ensuring good health, and fulfilling various wishes. It is also recommended as a charm for wishing happiness in the Year of the Ox in the Reiwa era.

Juryo-in, Zenko-ji Temple, Shinshu
One of the sub-temples of Zenko-ji Temple in Shinshu. The main deity is the Sun-Moon Fudo Myoo (Nichigatsu Fudou Son), with eyes representing the sun and moon. Throughout its history, it has been a place of strict religious practices, attracting people's faith through ceremonies such as eye-opening rituals. During the Warring States period, it is said to have erected a mound to commemorate the dead from the battles of Kawanakajima, conducting grand memorial services. Even today, annual ceremonies are held in front of the memorial tower for the Kawanakajima battles conducted by successive chief priests. All products have undergone sacred prayers, and a certificate of prayer is included.
