Made in polystone using a molded casting process, this statue is a faithful replica of a Japanese National Treasure originally carved in the Kamakura period by Kōben, one of the sons of the renowned sculptor Unkei. The model follows the established temple tradition of paired threshold attendants—figures created to accompany larger sacred images and to complete a balanced set—preserving the distinctive facial character and dynamic stance that made the historical work notable.
