Kokuzo Bosatsu (Akasagarbha Bodhisattva) is traditionally revered for embodying vast, “space-like” wisdom and the capacity to hold and nurture countless virtues.
This Kokuzo Bosatsu — Gumonjiho statue is crafted in Japan with an intentionally antique finish, offering a quiet, dignified presence suited to a home altar, a meditation space, or a thoughtful interior display.
About this piece
In Japanese esoteric Buddhist tradition, Kokuzo Bosatsu is associated with the virtues of wisdom and blessings connected to Dainichi Nyorai (Vairocana). Devotion to Kokuzo Bosatsu was already widespread in the Nara period (710–794), and the young Kobo Daishi is said to have practiced the Kokuzo Gumonjiho with Kokuzo as the principal deity at Mount Tairyu in Awa and at Muroto-zaki in Tosa. This figure is made using Takaoka-copperware techniques and finished to evoke an aged, antique character.
Cultural note
Buddhist images are sacred to many practitioners. If you keep this statue for personal practice, it is customary to place it in a clean, respectful area and to handle it with care. If you display it as art, presenting it thoughtfully—rather than as a casual ornament—helps honor the tradition it comes from.

This is recommended if you want your statue to be more than an object — a presence you can practice with. This option is not required.
