A paired set of Bishamonten and Kichijoten known as Ginnan Nitenson, created as a household form of a temple-enshrined model associated with Bupposhōryū-ji in Suwa, Nagano.

Each figure is presented with its own pedestal, offering a balanced, symmetrical presence suitable for a small altar shelf or quiet display space.

About this piece

This set is made from hinoki (Japanese cypress) using wood carving and finishing suited to small-format devotional sculpture. The model follows the Ginnan Nitenson prayer image newly established in autumn 2020 (Reiwa 2) at Bupposhōryū-ji Temple, where it was created in response to requests for a form that could be enshrined in the home. The original temple image was crafted by contemporary master sculptor Yuboku Mukoyoshi, and this paired format reflects that commission and the tradition of presenting Bishamonten and Kichijoten together as twin deities alongside Shōten in that temple context.

Cultural note

In Japan, Buddhist images are commonly approached as objects of reverence rather than decoration, and many households maintain a small, clean place where such figures can be regarded with a quiet, sincere mindset. Bishamonten is widely known as a protective figure, while Kichijoten is associated at a high level with auspiciousness and well-being; paired images like this are often understood as complementary presences. A respectful approach is to place the figures slightly above eye level if possible, keep the area tidy, and handle them with clean hands and calm attention, avoiding casual placement on the floor or in cluttered spaces.

Consecration (Eye-opening Ceremony)

You can choose an option to consecrate this statue before shipping from Japan. If you select this option, we will bring the statue for an eye-opening ceremony and ship it to you after the ritual is complete.

This is recommended if you want your statue to be more than an object — a presence you can practice with.
