A bronze figure of Fudō Myōō (Acala) modeled after a celebrated Kamakura-period image attributed to the sculptor Kaikei, known for its notably youthful expression.
Made in Japan using Takaoka bronze sculpting techniques, this work is finished with urushi in the final stages, creating subtle variations in texture across different areas of the statue.
About this piece
This is a cast bronze statue produced in the Takaoka tradition, where the work is molded, cast, finished, and colored by specialist craftsmen. The model follows the well-known Fudō Myōō attributed to Kaikei (active in the Kamakura period, 1185–1333), an original designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. The original design for this replica was commissioned from Mr. Maruyama (丸山明慧), a sculptor of Buddhist icons, and urushi is applied during the final manufacturing stages to articulate different surface qualities across the figure.
Cultural note
In Japan, Fudō Myōō is widely venerated within Esoteric Buddhist traditions as a powerful protector figure who helps people overcome inner obstacles such as greed, anger, and delusion. Images of Fudō are commonly approached as devotional icons: placed with care, kept in a clean and settled space, and handled with a respectful mindset (for example, lifting with both hands and avoiding casual placement on the floor). Many people choose a quiet, slightly elevated spot where the figure can be regarded without distraction, treating it as something to be greeted and maintained rather than used as ordinary décor.

Consecration (Eye-opening Ceremony)
You can choose an option to consecrate this statue before shipping from Japan. If you select this option, we will bring the statue for an eye-opening ceremony and ship it to you after the ritual is complete.
This is recommended if you want your statue to be more than an object — a presence you can practice with. This option is not required.
