Buddha — Takamura is a small, carefully finished figure that brings the look of a full-scale wooden statue into a compact form, with a calm presence and finely defined features.

Made from tsuge (Japanese boxwood) and finished with refined gold paint, it comes in a special paulownia wood box with a foil-stamped miniature Buddha logo.

About this piece

This piece is produced using advanced molding techniques developed for Buddhist statuary, allowing a balanced, statue-like form even at around 10cm in height. The base model and finishing direction were set under the supervision of Chihiro Takamura, a leading contemporary specialist in the coloring of Buddhist statues and a legitimate successor to the colorist lineage of Fuzan Hirano. The face—treated as the most important element in the carving—was shaped to match the image of the original reference statue, and the gold paint was applied by the Isumu workshop under Ms. Takamura’s supervision. The work reflects a tradition of colored and gilded wooden sculpture in Japan, revived and carried forward through modern makers and ateliers.

Cultural note

In Japan, Buddhist images are generally regarded as devotional icons as well as works of sculpture, and they are approached with a quiet, respectful mindset. Many people treat them as something to be kept clean, placed thoughtfully, and handled with care—often with a brief pause or bow when moving or arranging them. Even in non-temple settings, it is common to avoid placing such images directly on the floor or in areas associated with disorder, and to keep them in a calm, settled spot where they can be appreciated without casual treatment.

This is recommended if you want your statue to be more than an object — a presence you can practice with. This option is not required.
