Senju Kannon (千手観音)

"Senju Kannon (One-Thousand Hands Avalokiteshvara)" is another name for this bosatsu (bodhisattva), who is also called "Senju-sengen Kanjisai Bosatsu (One-Thousand Hands, One-Thousand Eyes Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva)." This bosatsu saves all living things without exception and represents great mercy. Due to its thousand hands and thousand eyes in the palms of its hands, it repeatedly discovers all living things in agony and extends its hands. Because of these infinitely expansive acts of charity and mercy, this bosatsu is also called "Daihi Kannon (Kannon of Great Mercy)" or "Renge-O," meaning "the King of the Kannon." It commands the nijuhachi bushu (28 attendants), which include Ashura, a demigod, and Kongo Rikishi, the Deva King.

Even among the Kannon (Avalokiteshvara), this Kannon's (Avalokiteshvara's) acts of charity are huge, and this Kannon (Avalokiteshvara) is also called "Renge-O," meaning "the King among the Kannon." It commands the nijuhachi bushu (28 attendants), such as Ashura, a demigod, and Kongo Rikishi, the Deva King. Also, it is counted as one of the Roku Kannon (Six Forms of Avalokiteshvara) and is said to save people who get lost in the Gakido (Hungry Ghost Realm).
