Since its release, the "Wooden Kagami Mochi" has gained popularity as a hit product, combining the convenience of being reusable every year with the artisanal appeal of a piece crafted by master sculptor Go Sakai. Building on these features, a new and upgraded version, the "First Dream Wooden Kagami Mochi," incorporates the motifs of “Mount Fuji, Hawk, and Eggplant” from the traditional Japanese first dream of the year, known to bring good fortune.
This auspicious New Year’s decoration has received blessings for financial success from the renowned Hōrai Hōrai Shrine (Kumamoto Prefecture), famous for its lottery luck blessings. The decorative stand, crafted in the style of a traditional sanpō and made from paulownia wood, also functions as a storage box, allowing for many years of use.
The original model was created by Go Sakai, an acclaimed sculptor known for his unique expression under the art unit “Hotoke-ya Sakai.” His works, including the “Neko-Butsu” series depicting Buddha statues in the charming form of cats, have gained widespread popularity. The kagami mochi decoration includes motifs of “Mount Fuji,” “Hawk,” and “Eggplant,” all based on Sakai’s original designs. Display it to enjoy the warmth of its craftsmanship while wishing for happiness in the New Year.
