Bodhisattva Fushon (Fugen Bosatsu) is a Buddha who symbolizes Gautama Buddha's compassion, and is often placed as a flanking image of Gautama Buddha together with Bodhisattva Monju, who is responsible for wisdom. The image of Bodhisattva Fushon is often seen alone, riding a white elephant with his palms together as a protector of the Lotus Sutra. Among the rokuharamitsu (the six kinds of practices that bodhisattvas should cultivate), Bodhissatva Fugen is said to be the Buddha in charge of stabilizing the mind. The first half of Badhissatva Fugen's name is said to refer to all things, and the second half is said to refer to the highest virtue. He is the bodhissatva who preaches the highest goodness to all
