A compact wooden figure of Fujin (the Wind God), modeled in the lively, wind-swept pose often seen in Japanese temple art, with the familiar wind bag held aloft.

Made to a small scale while keeping the balance and presence of a full-size statue, it pairs finely carved detail with a restrained gold finish, presented in a special paulownia wood box with a foil-stamped logo.

About this piece

This piece is produced in Japanese boxwood (tsuge), chosen for its tight grain and suitability for crisp, miniature carving—especially in the face, which is carved to match the image of the original statue model. Isumu’s workshop applies the refined gold paint under the supervision of Chihiro Takamura, a leading contemporary specialist in the coloring of Buddhist statuary and a legitimate successor in the lineage of colorists associated with Fuzan Hirano. The work belongs to a collection developed to bring established statue-making know-how into a small format, where achieving accurate proportions at roughly 10 cm is a key part of the craft challenge.

Cultural note

In Japan, images like Fujin are part of a long visual tradition that includes temple sculpture and protective iconography; Fujin is widely recognized as the Wind God and is often shown together with Raijin (the Thunder God) as a dynamic pair. Even when appreciated as art, such figures are commonly approached with a sense of respect—kept in a clean place, handled with care, and oriented with mindful intention rather than treated as casual décor. Many people avoid placing sacred or semi-sacred imagery directly on the floor, and choose a stable, slightly elevated spot where it won’t be jostled.

Consecration (Eye-opening Ceremony)

You can choose an option to consecrate this statue before shipping from Japan. If you select this option, we will bring the statue for an eye-opening ceremony and ship it to you after the ritual is complete.

This is recommended if you want your statue to be more than an object — a presence you can practice with. This option is not required.
