A compact Senju Kannon figure modeled after a celebrated Kyoto original and associated with the Kamakura-period Kei school of Buddhist sculpture.

This piece presents the distinctive multi-faced, many-armed form in a clean, finely detailed replica format suited to a shelf, desk, or small display space.

About this piece

Made in polystone using a molded casting process, this statue is produced as a replica of an original Senju Kannon image in Kyoto attributed to Tankei, the eldest son and student of the master sculptor Unkei. Tankei worked within the Keiha (Kei school) lineage of busshi (Buddhist sculptors) active in the Kamakura era (13th–14th century), a tradition known for vivid presence and carefully observed form. Replicas like this exist to make historically important sculptural models accessible for study and appreciation beyond the temple setting.

Cultural note

In Japan, images of Kannon (Kanzeon Bosatsu) are widely approached as compassionate presences within Buddhist practice, and Senju Kannon in particular is understood as a form that responds to suffering with expansive care. Such figures are commonly treated with quiet respect: placed thoughtfully, kept clean, and handled with calm attention rather than as casual décor. Many people choose a stable, slightly elevated spot, avoid placing items on top of the image, and pause briefly before it as a simple gesture of regard.

You can choose an option to consecrate this statue before shipping from Japan. If you select this option, we will bring the statue for an eye-opening ceremony and ship it to you after the ritual is complete.

This is recommended if you want your statue to be more than an object — a presence you can practice with.
