A compact Kannon Bosatsu figure modeled after the distinctive attendant images that flank Amida Nyorai in an Important Cultural Asset group preserved in Osaka.

This rendition highlights the rare raised-leg stance and gently tilted head that give the original attendants a light, poised presence, with carefully defined crown details, calm facial features, and robe textures.

About this piece

Made in polystone using a molded casting process, this piece is a contemporary reproduction based on the two flanking attendant statues from the Wooden Statues of Amida Nyorai and the Two Flanking Attendants (Osaka, designated an Important Cultural Asset). The model follows the early Heian-period sculptural approach associated with specialist Buddhist sculptors (busshi), emphasizing dignified presence while introducing a subtle sense of movement through the lifted leg and slight head tilt. The form exists as part of the established triad tradition in which attendant figures are created to accompany a central Amida image, and this particular design preserves the unusual pose and the fine, intentional differences seen between the original attendants.

Cultural note

In Japan, Kannon Bosatsu (Kanzeon) is widely regarded as a compassionate bodhisattva figure, and images of Kannon often appear in temples and home settings as objects approached with quiet respect. As an attendant in Pure Land traditions, Kannon is understood in relation to Amida Nyorai and the welcoming of beings to the Pure Land, so the figure is typically treated as part of a larger devotional context even when displayed on its own. A respectful approach is to place the statue in a clean, settled spot at or above eye level, avoid casual handling, and treat it as a religious image rather than a decorative ornament; when moving it, many people use both hands and a calm, attentive mindset.

This is recommended if you want your statue to be more than an object — a presence you can practice with. This option is not required.
