A small Amida Buddha figure associated with Zenkoji Juryoin, made as a quiet, steady presence for moments when words feel insufficient.

Carved in Japan from fragrant hinoki (Japanese cypress), this piece offers a simple, intimate scale suited to a desk, shelf, or personal altar space.

About this piece

Each statue is hand-carved from hinoki by a traditional Japanese busshi (Buddhist sculptor), following established sculptural models used for Amida Buddha images. The form is made within a living temple-linked tradition: after completion, it is consecrated at Juryoin, Teigakusan Zenkoji Temple (定額山善光寺壽量院), reflecting the long-standing practice of preparing Buddhist images for devotional settings through formal temple rites.

Cultural note

In Japan, Buddhist images are generally regarded as objects of reverence rather than decoration, and are approached with a calm, respectful mindset. Amida (Amida Nyorai) is widely honored as a Buddha associated with compassion and the promise of welcome into the Pure Land, and Amida images are often kept in homes and temples as a focus for remembrance and prayer. It is customary to place such an image in a clean, settled spot, to handle it with care (often with clean hands), and to avoid placing it directly on the floor or in a casually cluttered area.

Consecration (Eye-opening Ceremony)

You can choose an option to consecrate this statue before shipping from Japan. If you select this option, we will bring the statue for an eye-opening ceremony and ship it to you after the ritual is complete.

This is recommended if you want your statue to be more than an object — a presence you can practice with. This option is not required.
