Daikokuten — Sanmen Daikoku Son Ten is a carefully reproduced image based on the celebrated Sanmen Daikoku Son Ten enshrined at Touse-zan Shitenno-ji Temple in Tsu City, Mie Prefecture.

Using certified 3D-scan data taken from the temple’s wooden statue, this piece recreates the figure’s earlier, more richly colored appearance as referenced in historic amulets preserved by the temple. It is accompanied by a certificate of an eye-opening ceremony and two amulets (visage amulet and goshuin) issued as proof.

About this piece

This work is a 3D-scan-based reproduction of the Sanmen Daikoku Son Ten held at Touse-zan Shitenno-ji Temple (Mie), a statue traditionally associated with Prince Shotoku and later venerated in connection with Oda Nobunaga. The model was captured through a 3D scan carried out with the temple’s certification, and the form is reproduced from that precise dataset. Rather than copying the current, time-worn surface of the original (where pigment has largely faded and peeled), the finish here was reconstructed to reflect an earlier “glorious days” appearance, using the figure as depicted on old amulets handed down at the temple and verified by a Buddhist statue colorist. The “Sanmen” (three-faced) form exists within a tradition of presenting multiple aspects in a single icon, and this particular temple-held image is revered as a combined manifestation associated with Daikokuten, Bishamonten, and Benzaiten.

Cultural note

In Japan, images of deities such as Daikokuten are generally approached as sacred representations connected to temple and household devotional culture, and they are treated with quiet respect rather than as casual décor. Sanmen Daikoku Son Ten is understood as a form that brings together three revered figures—Daikokuten (often associated with abundance), Bishamonten (protection and victory), and Benzaiten (arts and prosperity)—into a single presence. When keeping such an image at home, many people choose a clean, settled place, avoid placing it directly on the floor, and handle it with clean hands and a composed attitude; the emphasis is on sincerity and care rather than elaborate rules.

Consecration (Eye-opening Ceremony)

You can choose an option to consecrate this statue before shipping from Japan. If you select this option, we will bring the statue for an eye-opening ceremony and ship it to you after the ritual is complete.

This is recommended if you want your statue to be more than an object — a presence you can practice with.
