Gigeiten — Akishino-ji is a carefully made wooden reproduction based on the famed standing figure from the Yakushi triad preserved at Akishino Temple in Nara.
Created from a high-definition 3D scan taken from the original with the temple’s permission, this piece is designed to let you study the statue’s refined silhouette and surface character up close—including the back and sides that are difficult to view in a temple setting.
About this piece
The original model is an Important Cultural Property: a wooden standing statue of Gigeiten from the Yakushi triad at Akishino Temple (Nara), and it is described as the only known statue of Gigeiten in Japan. With permission from the temple, the original was captured via 3D imaging to produce high-definition scan data. Using that data, Butuzou World reproduced the figure through precision wood-carving methods associated with Buddhist sculpture production, then combined modeling and coloring techniques from its sister brand Isumu to recreate an aged, time-worn texture. The replica is made at a different size from the original, but aims to preserve the statue’s elegant form as faithfully as possible.
Cultural note
In Japan, Buddhist images are generally approached as sacred representations connected to temple tradition and devotional practice, even when encountered outside a temple. Gigeiten is understood as a protective figure associated with the Yakushi (Medicine Buddha) triad, and is often spoken of in relation to accomplishment and good fortune. A respectful approach is to treat the statue as an object of reverence: choose a clean, calm place, avoid placing it directly on the floor, and handle it with clean hands and a steady, attentive mindset. Many people also avoid positioning such images in casual or cluttered areas, or in ways that feel dismissive (for example, facing toward a busy footpath).

This is recommended if you want your statue to be more than an object — a presence you can practice with. This option is not required.
