Seishi Bosatsu (勢至菩薩) Takaoka Doki (高岡銅器)

In contrast to Kannon who represents the aspect of compassion of Amida Nyorai, Seishi Bosatsu represents the aspect of wisdom, and is famous as the attendant of Amida Nyorai together with Kannon Bosatsu. Seishi Bosatsu illuminates everything with the light of his wisdom and is said to have the unsurpassed power to keep people away from the three evil paths (of the six realms of rebirth).

Furthermore, it is said that Seishi Bosatsu can shake the three thousand realms and the devil's palace simply by casting out his foot. In paintings of the welcoming of Amitabha's sagely retinue, which is based on the belief that Amitabha, the lord of the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, as well as Kannon and the many bodhisattvas of musical performance and offerings come riding on a cloud from the Pure Land to welcome those who pray for rebirth in the Pure Land during their final moments, Seishi Bosatsu is depicted alongside Kannon at the head of the holy retinue with his hands joined together in prayer. Furthermore, Seishi Bosatsu is depicted in the lotus section (Kannon section) of the Womb Realm Mandala of the Mandala of the Two Realms brought from China by Kūkai, where he represents the will to open the buddha nature that all sentient beings inherently possess.
