The popular Goko Shiyui Amitabha statue has been transformed into a bronze statue through the traditional craft of Takaoka copperware. The thick and voluminous coils of hair covering the head symbolize the profound contemplation of the ideal Pure Land by Amida Buddha for countless eons. The original golden color of the Buddha is achieved by applying gold leaf to the bronze statue.
The weight of 620 grams is a characteristic of a bronze statue. This substantial weight adds a definite presence, enhanced by its compact size of approximately 11.5 centimeters. The statue is finished with a combination of black and various nuances incorporated throughout the entire body.
The term "五劫" refers to a period of twenty-one billion six hundred million years, or it is said to be the time it takes for a celestial maiden to descend to a large rock once every three years, where the friction caused by her celestial garment touching the rock gradually erases the rock.
During such an immensely long period, Amida Buddha has been contemplating our salvation and the ideal Pure Land. The extended coils of hair in the sculpture convey the compassion and greatness of Amida Buddha to us.
