Sanmen Daikokuten is a three-faced form of Daikokuten, presented here as a compact hinoki (Japanese cypress) statue made in Japan. This piece is modeled to be almost the same size as the three-faced Daikokuten associated with Toyotomi Hideyoshi (1537–1598), the 16th-century feudal lord and chief Imperial minister.

This statue has already received an eye-opening (kaigen) ceremony at Entoku-in, a sub-temple of Kodai-ji in Kyoto, and includes a proof of ceremony certificate. A talisman is also included.

About this piece

Carved from hinoki wood, this Sanmen Daikokuten is a small-scale devotional sculpture based on the three-faced Daikokuten tradition preserved at Entoku-in (Kodai-ji, Kyoto). The model lineage is tied to the image long enshrined there and associated in temple tradition with Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who is said to have kept a personal three-faced Daikokuten close at hand. This form exists as a specific, transmitted icon type—commissioned and reproduced within a Japanese temple context as a personal worship image—bringing together three faces in a single figure according to established tradition.

Cultural note

In Japan, images such as Sanmen Daikokuten are approached as sacred representations rather than decoration, and are commonly treated with quiet respect in the home. Daikokuten is widely regarded as a figure connected with good fortune and abundance; in this three-faced form, the image also incorporates Bishamonten and Benzaiten, expressing a combined presence often associated with protection, prosperity, and well-being. A respectful approach is to place the statue in a clean, elevated spot, orient it thoughtfully (many people face such images south; facing west is also traditional for some households), and handle it with clean hands and a calm intention. It is generally considered inappropriate to place such an image directly on the floor.

Consecration (Eye-opening Ceremony)

You can choose an option to consecrate this statue before shipping from Japan. If you select this option, we will bring the statue for an eye-opening ceremony and ship it to you after the ritual is complete.

This is recommended if you want your statue to be more than an object — a presence you can practice with.
